PONTOON AND TRITOON BOAT LIFTS

The right pontoon boat lift capacity should be based on your boat's fully loaded wet weight, including fuel, batteries, gear, and accessories. Choosing a lift with adequate capacity helps ensure safe operation and can provide flexibility if you upgrade to a larger pontoon or tritoon in the future. When in doubt, it is often better to size slightly above your current requirements. To learn more about determining weight capacity for a boat lift, read our Guide to Boat Lift Weight Capacity.

Water depth requirements for a pontoon boat lift depend on your boat's draft, lift style, and local conditions. Most boat lifts work best in at least 3 feet of water, however shallower depths may still have options. Things to consider are the type of lake bottom and whether or not the water fluctuates. Choosing the right pontoon boat lift for your water depth helps ensure reliable performance throughout the boating season. Consider consulting with an authorized boat lift dealer near you for expert advice.

When comparing pontoon boat lifts, important factors include lift capacity, lifting height, ease of operation, support configuration, and compatibility with your waterfront conditions. The best pontoon boat lift is one that matches both your boat and your waterfront environment.

Many boat lifts can be configured to accommodate a pontoon boat, provided they have the proper capacity and support system. Because pontoon boats distribute weight differently than traditional V-hull boats, specialized cradles or bunk configurations are required. A properly configured pontoon boat lift helps support the boat evenly and makes loading and unloading easier.

A tritoon may use the same general lift style as a pontoon boat, but it should be set up with the correct capacity and bunk configuration for the boat. Because tritoons have three tubes and often weigh more than comparable pontoons, they may require a different support setup than a standard pontoon. Before choosing a lift, confirm the boat’s fully loaded weight, tube layout, and the recommended bunk configuration.

In many cases, yes. Pontoon and tritoon boats can often use the same lift provided the lift has adequate capacity and width for the boat. The primary difference is typically the bunk or cradle configuration used to support the boat. Depending on the size and layout of the tritoon, longer bunks or a different cradle system may be recommended to provide proper support and make loading easier.

Depending on the capacity of the boat lift, it may be possible to add a pontoon or tritoon lift kit to accommodate your pontoon boat. Factors to consider are the maximum width of the boat lift and the maximum weight capacity. Once you’re sure that your existing lift will be able to safely lift your pontoon, you can check and see if there’s a PONTOON CONVERSION KIT available from your lift’s manufacturer to safely lift your pontoon boat.
